 About the Centre

Mission and History

"... to provide high quality services for the relief of children and young adults with special needs in Norfolk."

This is the mission statement of the Hamlet Centre Trust, a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee.

It was founded in 1972 by Jack and Margaret Wymer who were themselves disabled with Spinal Muscular Atrophy.

In 1980 they published an account of their lives, from their first meeting through to living in their own adapted flat and the creation of the Norwich Toy Library.  Contact the Centre for more information about their book "Another Door Opens".

The organization began as a Toy Library open for one afternoon a week, and the service has gradually expanded in response to the changing needs of families using the centre.

Today, a wide range of activities currently takes place in the Trust's own bright, welcoming building. The Hamlet Centre is full of fun and games for children with special needs. Support and respite for families are also priorities. A warm welcome awaits first-time visitors and old friends alike.
