Adult Project

Gardening and Sensory ProjectThe Hamlet Centre is a place for young people with special needs to develop their full potential and learn to be as independent as possible.  With support from their key workers, students select their own timetable from a wide range of courses on offer, including basic education, personal development, independent living and social activities

Basic Education
We welcome tutors from the Learning Enhancement Team to teach small groups of students.  Using volunteers and our own staff team we can provide a very high level of support for all our groups, making sure that each student gets as much as possible from their chosen courses.

An important part of what students learn here is about being confident and asking for what you want.  We run a Developing Self-Advocacy Course, a Personal Development Course and a Personal Safety Course, amongst others.   All these courses are designed so that anyone can take part, no matter what their ability level.  Courses often include trips out and visits.

Independent Living
We have a small flat in the centre of Norwich that is available as the base for our Independent Living Project.  Students learn about healthy eating, looking after yourself, shopping and community involvement.

Social and Leisure
Students enjoy being part of social groups, for example going bowling or swimming. People make friends at the Hamlet Centre and then can meet up in their own time, thus helping to create a support network themselves.

Art and Craft
Many students find art to be a good way of expressing themselves.  We use a variety of media and have held two successful exhibitions in Norwich, giving students the opportunity to exhibit their work.  We work with local artists who are brilliant at helping students experiment with new forms of art.

Out of Hours Project
This is a new project to facilitate students who attend the Hamlet Centre with 'out of hours' activities.  These range from a meal out, trips to the cinemas, horse riding and skiing.
